An Ice Cream Saga...

Today we went to our favorite park, Friendship Garden, or Friendship Park as we now call it. The kids always have a blast there. There is usually an ice cream truck parked on the street, but until today we haven't indulged. Today when it was a pretty warm day so we decided when we started out that we would get ice cream when we were finished. The kids had a great time playing as usual and when it was time to go home, Don and I realized suddenly that we had no cash. I hadn't carried my purse, and Don only had plastic. This presented a bit of a problem as the kids were REALLY looking forward to ice cream. Thinking quick on our feet, we realized there was a McDonald's just down the street. No worries, "Mzee lets go to McDonald's for ice cream!" He still wasn't totally convinced, but hey it was still ice cream and he loves McDonald's in general. In fact, he used to tell people it is his favorite restaurant even though we don't go there often. I think our local pizza shop is his favorite now though. But, hey, back to the story. So, we load the kids in the car, drive down to McDonald's, unload everyone from the car, wait in line at McDonald's, and finally, I place my order. One vanilla cone, one vanilla dish...and the clerk behind the counter stops me: "Our ice cream machine is broken." What?? I have two kids here who really wanted ice cream and this is already our backup plan, and you are telling me you have no ice cream??? I didn't say that of course, but I sure thought it. The kids were not happy, and we were already at McDonald's, they were hot and thirsty so we decided to go ahead and get them some juice and french fries, not a great snack but given the tragedy of the scenario, they earned it, I suppose you could say. While sitting at McDonald's I remembered that we actually had ice cream cones in the cupboard at home, something we don't usually have on hand. So, for my own vindication of the ice cream scenario, we still had ice cream cones when we got home!!! Certainly not menu we would do on a regular basis, but it sure was fun, given the saga it took to get there. As you can see below, the kids thought the ice cream was well worth the wait!!!
