The Backyardigans Live - Tale of the Mighty Knights!

The first thing you must know is that Mzee's ABSOLUTE FAVORITE TV Show is the Backyardigans. He discovered it sometime after we moved here. It really is a cute show and my friend/co-worker Andrea and I have discussed how the choreography of the characters, who sing and dance a lot throughout the show is really quite good. Andrea read or saw somewhere that broadway caliber choreographers actually work on the animation for the show. Anyway, it is a cute show where each episode starts out in one of the characters backyards. They have a specifically themed adventure and the scenery slowly turns into the adventure and they no longer appear to be in their backyard, but in their very active imaginations. And at the end, someones tummy always growls as they are hungry for a snack. The scenery then fades back to their backyards, and they go to one of the characters for any number of possible snack options. All in all, it is a very cute show. I enjoy watching with the kids, more for the way they react than anything. Mzee gets physically excited, dancing around and giggling whenever an episode starts. And, we have the Backyardigans Mission to Mars DVD where they venture to outer space and he has the words to every song memorized and will dance along. He also does this for the Surfs Up episode and probably a few others I've lost track of. Well, I think you get the idea, he LOVES this show. So, when I heard they were coming to Madison Square Garden, Don and I knew this would be Mzee's first big live show! As it turns out, Andrea's daughter who is close to Mzee's age loves the Backyardigans, so the four of us planned to see the show. Mzee and I took the train into the city, though it started raining on our way in, and by the time we got there it was raining pretty good. We managed to stay underground all the way to the theatre by using the subway, which Mzee always enjoys. We met Andrea and Sol at the theatre and settled in to see the show. They actually handed out free shields for the kids, which the kids got to use during the show. When the music started, Mzee nearly jumped out of his seat he was so excited. He sat for the entire show and had a great time with his friend Sol!

Does he look happy or what?

Still happy at intermission!!!

Let's go back to my house for a snack....that's the way all Backyardigans episodes ends!

Mzee and Sol after the show

As you can see from the pictures, Mzee really loved the shield, and he loved the show in general. After the show we took the kids to McDonald's for dinner and then we rode the train back home. When we were leaving the theatre, it was pouring down rain, so I finally had to break down and buy my first $5 umbrella on the street as I had forgotten to pack mine that day.
